Right as the name suggest, sapt (seven) rishis (sages). Sapt Rishi Ashram is the divine abode where the seven sages in our mythological scriptures meditated. They were, Kashyapa, Vishwamitra, Vashisht, Gautam, Bhardwaja, Atri and Jamadagi. One more story which springs up in the scriptures, is that the Pandava while going to heaven passed through this place and on the banks of the river their statues with their wives still stand near the ashram.

Ganga flows next to this spiritual abode, along with the sound of its trickling waters just across, one can enjoy the divine splendor of the lush Chilla sanctuary where the elephants grace you with their presence occasionally, as they make a breakfast visit to the farms to feast on the grass.

This holy ashram is where the seven Sages meditated and river Ganga in order not to disturb them divided itself into seven streams at this spot, hence the name Sapt sarovar (seven streams) evolved. This ashram is flooded with disciples around the year because of its religious ambiance. Even today, this quaint old ashram, houses rishis and sages from all over of the world, going by the faith of acquiring good learnings of life .

Meditation and yoga classes besides the religious activities like Bhajans and Aartis are some of the major activity held periodically here, visited all year around by people from all walks of life.

There are a total number of 42 kutiyas or huts which are actually independent two room a bathroom and a kitchen allotted to devotees for free stay and food enroute to the hills and exceptionally also given to regular travelers on their way to Kedarnath and Badrinath at times depending on their availability but mainly on the recommendation of the management and the would be a paid stay.

Late shri Goswami ji Maharaj renovated it . The satnam Dharma Sabha spent lakhs on the renovations, when it was ready Dr. Rajendra Prasad the president of India, inaugurated it.
